Upper eyelid surgery

Do you suffer from heavy eyelids, find it difficult to keep your eyes open, or are you simply tired of that weary look? Then an upper eyelid correction is the key to regaining radiant eyes. In addition to the cosmetic benefits, constant headaches can also be a consequence of drooping eyelids. This occurs because the eyebrows are (unconsciously) constantly raised to fully open the eyes. Our specialists correct your heavy and drooping eyelids with a minor medical procedure.

Treatment process

Consultation

During a consultation, you will meet the specialist, and your wishes and expectations will be discussed. The natural aging process of bone structures, fat and muscle tissue, and the skin will be evaluated. Based on this analysis and photographs, a personalized treatment plan will be created to ensure the best possible results. You will always receive honest and comprehensive advice throughout the process.

Eye lift: Upper eyelid correction for droopy eyes

In an upper eyelid correction, also known as an eye lift, excess skin and sagging of the eyelids are corrected. This procedure for droopy eyes offers various cosmetic and medical benefits, such as eliminating a tired appearance and alleviating persistent headaches.

Our specialists take the time to thoroughly examine your face and discuss all available options with you. We always strive for a natural final result. During a personal, no-obligation consultation, your wishes will be discussed, and our specialist will provide honest and reliable advice.

Lifting upper eyelids: How does this work?

Before undergoing the eye lift treatment, you will have a consultation with the doctor who will perform the procedure. If you have any questions about the treatment, this is the opportunity to ask the doctor anything you need. During the next appointment, preparations for the treatment will take place, including making markings on the skin. You will then receive a local anesthetic, so you won’t feel anything during the procedure. Additionally, the chance of bruising after the upper eyelid correction is reduced because the anesthetic contains a substance that constricts blood vessels. Since the anesthesia is local, it will take effect very quickly.

Once the anesthesia takes effect, it’s time to begin the treatment. During the eye lift, excess skin from the upper eyelid is removed. If necessary, any fat that may be present will also be removed to achieve the desired result. We always strive for a natural outcome with minimal bruising. Therefore, it is important to address any small bleeding that occurs during the procedure. The doctor will cauterize these blood vessels with electricity, a process known as diathermy.

The procedure is almost finished! Finally, the wounds on the skin will be carefully closed with stitches, and each treated eyelid will be covered with small adhesive bandages.

Upper eyelid surgery: before and after

An upper eyelid correction is an effective treatment for a rejuvenated and fresh appearance. Curious about the results of an upper eyelid correction?

Droopy eyelids create a tired look because they hang over the eyes, making them appear heavy. After the eye lift treatment, a significant difference can be seen: the eyes become more visible and regain a bright, fresh appearance!

It is important to note that each individual requires a personalized approach, and results may vary from person to person. We recommend scheduling a no-obligation consultation where you can thoroughly discuss your options with one of our experienced specialists.

Droopy eyelids: causes

There are several causes of droopy eyelids. Often, these are natural factors, such as the aging process and genetic predispositions. Additionally, "personal" factors can also play a role. These include eye infections, previous eye surgeries, prolonged use of (hard) contact lenses, or accidents that have damaged the eyelid. Since the cause can vary from person to person, it is important to determine the best and most effective treatment for you during a consultation with the specialist.

Before surgery

Before a treatment, there is a complimentary intake appointment that includes a health screening. You should not consume alcohol 24 hours prior to the treatment. Upon arrival, you will be welcomed at the reception. The receptionist will ensure the proper and safe processing of your information. If necessary, photos will be taken for your file. You will take a seat in our waiting area, where your provider will come to escort you. You may also sit here if you wish to wait a bit after your treatment before heading home.

Additionally, it is advised to:

  • Ensure that your eyes are clean and free of makeup before the procedure.
  • Avoid sunbeds or unprotected sun exposure for two weeks prior to the treatment.

Aftercare

In the period following your eyelid correction, it is crucial to closely follow our aftercare advice. By doing so, you will significantly shorten your recovery time, but more importantly, you will largely determine the final result of your eyelid correction!

In the first few days after your treatment, you will experience swelling around the eyes and sometimes bruising. To ensure the best possible recovery, we recommend taking it easy for the first week after your treatment. Your stitches will be removed after 7 days, and most people can resume their normal activities afterward. However, we advise against heavy physical work for at least the first two weeks following the procedure.

Here are some guidelines to follow after the treatment:

  • Sunbathing, facial massages, and the use of contact lenses, makeup, scrubs, peels, saunas, or tanning beds are not recommended for the first two weeks post-treatment.
  • In the first week after the treatment, the wounds, stitches, and bandages should not get wet.
  • As long as you have stitches around your eyes (in the first week), you should not drive.
  • Exercise and heavy physical exertion are discouraged for the first two weeks after the treatment.

Why should I consider upper eyelid surgery?
