Treatment process
What is labiaplasty?
A labiaplasty is a procedure in which the shape of the inner labia (labia minora) or outer labia (labia majora) is corrected or reduced. The procedure can be performed for various individual reasons. The shape or size of one or both labia can cause discomfort or issues.
Why consider labiaplasty?
A labiaplasty is a common procedure. There are several reasons why women choose to undergo this treatment.
- Discomfort: For some women, the labia can cause irritation and pain during activities such as walking, exercising, cycling, or sexual activity.
- Psychological distress: Some women feel insecure about the appearance of their labia, especially when wearing swimwear or other tight clothing.
- Cosmetic reasons: There are women who are unhappy with the shape or size of their labia and wish to have them altered.
Prior to a labiaplasty
Before the procedure, a consultation is scheduled with one of our expert gynecologists to discuss your wishes, expectations, and the details of the treatment. During this meeting, you can ask any questions you may have, and we will ensure that you are fully informed about the entire process, from treatment to recovery.
How does a labiaplasty procedure work?
On the day of the procedure, you will check in at the reception upon arrival. If the doctor has prescribed medication, it is important to bring it with you to the clinic and take it upon arrival. In the clinic, you will receive a numbing cream with instructions to apply it to the area to be treated. This cream helps make the numbing injections less painful. The cream requires some time to take effect, so it is important to arrive well in advance of the procedure. Once the cream has been applied, you will be escorted to the treatment room. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and takes about an hour. The doctor will correct one or both labia as previously discussed and will close the wound with dissolvable stitches.
Recovery after labiaplasty
After the procedure, there may be some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. We will provide detailed instructions regarding care and guidelines for after the procedure. The recovery from a labiaplasty can take several weeks, so it is important not to expect immediate results. The final result, however, will become visible after a few months.
