Clitoral hood reduction

The vulva, in addition to the labia, also includes the clitoral hood. The clitoral hood is a piece of skin that covers and protects the clitoris. Sometimes, women may have excess skin around the hood, or the clitoris may be overly covered. During a correction, excess skin is removed, which can improve clitoral stimulation. Additionally, some women may feel dissatisfied with the appearance of the clitoral hood. A clitoral hood reduction is often combined with a labiaplasty.

What is a clitoral hood reduction?

The vulva, in addition to the labia, also includes the clitoral hood. The clitoral hood is a piece of skin that covers and protects the clitoris. Sometimes, women may have excess skin around the hood, or the clitoris may be overly covered. During a correction, excess skin is removed, which can improve clitoral stimulation. Additionally, some women may feel dissatisfied with the appearance of the clitoral hood. A clitoral hood reduction is often combined with a labiaplasty.

Why consider a clitoral hood reduction?

The clitoral hood plays an important role in the sensation and protection of the clitoris. During intercourse, the hood may slightly retract, exposing the clitoris more. However, when the hood contains excess skin or covers the clitoris too much, it can lead to discomfort or reduced sexual sensation.

Prior to the clitoral hood reduction

Before the procedure, a consultation will be scheduled with one of our expert gynecologists to discuss your wishes, expectations, and the details of the treatment. During this meeting, you can ask any questions you may have, and we will ensure you are fully informed about the entire process, from treatment to recovery.

How does a clitoral hood reduction procedure work?

On the day of the procedure, you will check in at the reception upon arrival. If the doctor has prescribed medication, it is important to bring it with you to the clinic and take it upon arrival. In the clinic, you will receive a numbing cream with instructions to apply it to the area to be treated. This cream helps make the numbing injections less painful. The cream requires some time to take effect, so it is important to arrive well in advance of the procedure. Once the cream has taken effect, you will be escorted to the treatment room. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and takes about half an hour. If a labiaplasty is also being performed at the same time, the procedure will take approximately 1 ½ hours. The doctor will correct the clitoral hood (and labia) as previously discussed and will close the wound with dissolvable stitches.

Recovery after a clitoral hood reduction

After the procedure, there may be some swelling, bruising, and discomfort. We will provide detailed instructions regarding care and guidelines for after the procedure. Recovery from a clitoral hood reduction can take several weeks, so it is important not to expect immediate results. The final result will be visible after a few months. Most women are satisfied with the final outcome.
