Laser for redness

Visible blood vessels on the face, also known as couperose, can often be cosmetically disturbing. The dilation of the blood vessel walls creates a network of small red and blue veins. These vessels can be treated with IPL (Intense Pulsed Light).

Treatment process

Consultation

The skin therapist will discuss the treatment options, expected effects, benefits, and risks. Each treatment is customized based on your individual preferences as well as what is medically appropriate.

During the consultation, the overall condition of your skin will be assessed. Based on this assessment, the skin therapist will provide tailored advice, including recommendations for the right skincare products, in addition to the treatment for the blood vessels.

It is crucial to use the right skincare in conjunction with treatments, as this will help ensure that the results of the treatment remain visible for a longer period.

Function

The blood vessels are treated with laser light. The treatment is not painless; the sensation is often compared to the feeling of warm rubber bands snapping against the skin.

The laser light is converted into heat, which coagulates the blood vessel walls. This means they will stick together, after which the body will eliminate the small blood vessel. This process takes some time, and the skin will be healed approximately four weeks after the treatment.

Indication

The treatment is suitable for anyone with unsightly blood vessels on the face.

Results

The results are often visible after just one treatment within a time frame of four weeks. On average, 1 to 3 treatments are needed with an interval of four weeks.

The maintenance of the results depends on several factors. Good skincare, proper sun protection, and optimal skin condition all help to delay the formation of new blood vessels.

Before treatment

Do not expose your skin to the sun without protection for 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after the final treatment. It is advised to protect your skin every day with the appropriate sunscreen.

Aftercare

Immediately after the treatment, the skin may appear slightly red and irritated. This sensation typically subsides within a few hours. Additionally, the treated blood vessels often appear darker and more noticeable after the treatment. However, this is a good sign, indicating that the treatment has been effective. The vessels will disappear after a few days.

Avoid stimulating blood circulation in the face for 3 days before and 7 days after the treatments. Strong blood circulation in the face can be caused by:

  • Exercising
  • Visiting the sauna
  • Consuming alcohol
  • Eating spicy foods
  • Using peels or scrubs
