Treatment process
Consultation
During a consultation, the hair structure is examined and the area to be treated is assessed. Small areas, such as the face or armpits, can potentially be treated immediately during the consultation. For larger areas, such as the legs, the entire bikini line, or the back, a separate appointment will be scheduled after the consultation.
It is advised to only remove hair between treatments by shaving or trimming. Waxing or plucking the hair negatively affects the treatment results. The skin therapist will discuss the treatment options, expected outcomes, benefits, and risks. Whether the hair growth pattern is an indication for laser treatment depends on several factors, including hair texture, hair color, and medical history.
Additionally, during the consultation, it is recommended to use good sun protection (at least SPF 30).
Function
The laser treatment is performed using the Soprano Titanium laser. The laser works by converting a laser beam into heat within the skin. This heat effectively damages the hair follicle and prevents the growth of new hair.
This laser features two different treatment methods:
- The SHR technique: This technique gradually heats the treated area.
- The HR technique: This method uses pulses to effectively damage the hair follicles.
Indication
The treatment is not suitable for everyone. The hair must be dark in color, as only then is there enough pigment in the hair to respond to the laser treatment. The laser treatment does not produce results on white, gray, red, or light brown hairs (such as vellus hairs).
However, thanks to the two different techniques offered by the Soprano Titanium, it is also safe to treat individuals with darker skin types.
Results
Hair grows in different growth phases, which is why multiple treatments are required to achieve good results. On average, a treatment plan consists of approximately 8 to 10 sessions, spaced 6 to 8 weeks apart. After a series of laser treatments, an average hair reduction of 80% is achieved, with 100% hair reduction often being impossible to reach.
To maintain the results, it is recommended to undergo a maintenance treatment once every six months or once a year to preserve the achieved outcome.
Before treatment
Avoid unprotected sun exposure from 4 weeks before the first treatment until at least 4 weeks after the last treatment. Apply sun protection with a minimum SPF30 every day.
Aftercare
After a laser treatment, the skin may show some redness and slight swelling around the hair follicle. These skin reactions will disappear within a few hours after the treatment.
The hairs will shed up to 2 weeks after the laser treatment. Not all hairs are in the correct growth phase at the same time, which is why multiple treatments are needed to achieve optimal results.
